Teeth Cleaning and Preventive Dental Care

Preventive care helps maintain teeth, gums and dental restorations. A check-up identifies problems early, while professional cleaning and daily hygiene are planned around your condition and risk factors.

What the assessment covers

The dentist checks teeth, gums, existing work, bite and relevant soft tissues. Your medical history, diet, habits and home care are reviewed. Imaging is used where a clinical question justifies it. An implant or crown does not remove the need for routine care.

Professional cleaning

Cleaning removes deposits that are difficult to manage at home. The extent of care depends on gum health and the type of deposits. Persistent gum disease may need a periodontal treatment plan rather than a single routine scaling. Sensitivity and comfort measures are discussed before care.

A daily routine you can maintain

Brush with a suitable fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth using the method demonstrated by the team. Implant bridges and splints may need additional cleaning tools. Ask for practical instruction if arthritis, limited opening or another difficulty affects your ability to clean.

Questions before you decide

Your questions answered

It can remove surface deposits and stain. Whitening changes the shade of suitable natural teeth and is a separate treatment.

Yes. Tissues around implants and the bridge need daily cleaning and professional review.

The dentist recommends an interval based on your gum condition, decay risk, medical history and dental work.

The clinician examines the teeth, gums and mouth, discusses symptoms and habits, and recommends cleaning or investigations when indicated. The review interval is based on your needs.

Ask the clinician to demonstrate aids suited to your gaps, restorations, gums and dexterity. Effective daily cleaning matters more than choosing an elaborate product.

Visits and costs

The estimate reflects the required examination, cleaning or gum treatment. Review intervals depend on decay risk, gum condition, medical factors and the restorations present. Some patients need more frequent maintenance; a fixed six-month interval is not the correct schedule for everyone.

When to come earlier

Arrange assessment for persistent bleeding, pain, swelling, a broken restoration or a mouth lesion that does not heal. Do not wait for a routine check-up when symptoms change. Professional prevention supports treatment by helping you care for what has been restored.

Preventive care for your natural teeth

Preventive care includes regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between teeth and professional checks. Cleaning aids should be suited to the spaces in your mouth, existing restorations and your ability to use them effectively.

Discuss frequent sugar exposure, tobacco use, dry mouth and grinding with your clinician. These can affect the type of preventive advice and monitoring you need. A protective appliance may be considered for selected grinding-related problems, but it should follow an assessment.

Regular review helps identify decay, gum inflammation, restoration damage or changes in the bite. The interval should reflect your risk and treatment history rather than relying only on whether a tooth currently hurts.
